Native to North America, northern Asia, and much of Africa, the willow is a low-growing deciduous tree bearing long, green, tapering leaves and cylindrical flower clusters called catkins. The inner bark of white willow is stripped from young trees in the spring and is a rich source of salicin, a chemical converted in the body to salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is closely related to one of the most widely used drugs in the world: aspirin.

White Willow Bark can be used internally as an extract to relieve headaches and feverish states. Drink as a tea infusion for inflammations of the gastrointestinal tract. Externally, it is used as a wet compress for minor skin inflammations, wounds and ulcers. Make a sitz bath with willow bark to support vaginal irritation and hemorrhoids. Willow bark is often used in dreamwork and emotional healing. The leaves can be used in blends to attract love and can also be used as a protection herb when sprinkled throughout the home to ward against evil. Traditional witch brooms are bound with a willow branch.
